Fans were excited to see the seven time CCMA award winner Dean Brody at Hamilton Place on February 9 2014. It was a cold and dismal night, but it was warm and hopping inside with country fans wearing Plaids, cowboy boots and hats in every colour, waiting in anticipation for Dean to arrive via space ship!
Before Dean took to the stage, the audience witnessed a short video of Dean in a space ship having an alien encounter! Once it was over, Dean took to the stage to sing “Crop Circles,” which is also the name of his latest album. I was surprised to see that he was not wearing his signature cowboy hat, but for his second song, “People Know You By Your First Name,” he put on his hat! He sang most of his hit including “Dirt, Little Yellow Blanket,” and of course “Roll That Barrel Out!” Everyone was singing and dancing like they were in a country bar!
Much to my surprise I spotted Shane Guse, who won Fiddler player of the year for 2010, 2011! Boy can he play that fiddle with ease! He played a beautiful introduction to “Wild Flower.”
Dean has charisma and he’s an entertainer, making the audience feel like there’s no other place they’d rather be! Dean sang his hit “Bob Marley”, and sang a medley of songs by Bob.
Dean then introduced his 5 piece band the “Brodeo! The band played some mountain music and actually hung antlers from his microphone! At a country concert, anything can happen! Dean started tapping the antlers like he was playing a cow bell! People were shouting out their favourite songs. He became serious and thanked anyone in the audience who had fought or had known someone who had fought for our country and sang “Brothers!” There was a few tears shed in the audience, and I was one of them!
His final song was “ It’s Friday.” To my surprise, he jumped onto the side platform beside me to finish the show! His encore songs were “Trial In Life, and Canadian Girls, “ changing into a Team Canada jersey!
