Outkast at OVO Festival

The legendary hip-hop duo known as Outkast performed a highly captivating gig at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre as part of Drake’s OVO Festival.

The dispute and creative conflicts between André “3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton are no secret to the music world. However, they put their past behind them and reunited for their 20th anniversary. This all came as a surprise to the masses at Coachella 2013 and then they went onto announce that they’d be performing at 40 more festivals around the world. So far, they’ve gone to Osheaga, Governors Ball, CounterPoint and Lollapalooza just to name a few.

Despite not being the biggest hip hop lover, I did understand how significant this reunion tour was for that scene. They are one of the most successful groups with 6 Grammy Awards, 4 American Music awards and critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. And I had the privilege of witnessing this historic concert in Toronto. So much so that I was just captivated by both of these colourful characters. The amount of charisma I felt from them and the crowd made me not want to miss a moment with them by switching lenses from my shoulder bag. It was that great. A wide angle lens from the photo pit allowed for some dynamic group shots and was sweet for when André came up close to the edge of the stage.

Outkast opened their set up with B.O.B with André 3000 and Big Boi inside of a gigantic cube (think about Apple’s 5th avenue glass cube store) but tinted with a black and white version of the American flag. Then the stage lights kicked in and made for some awesome silhouette effects on the already dramatic stage setup. Of course hits over the years such as “Hey Ya!” and “Ms. Jackson” were performed. The night ended off with “The Whole World”.
