Yelle at The Mod Club

There has been some backlash on forums and word of mouth that Yelle were sell outs working with Dr.Luke who has won numerous awards working with other pop superstars such as Katy Perry, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, etc.  Not to worry Yelle has remained truthful to their roots as they newly released 3rd EP has finally hit the airwaves with their first single and self-title album, “Complement Fou” has made a splash in the French dance pop scene.

Yelle, the band consisting of lead singer Julie Budet, Jean-Francois Perrier and Tanguy Destable, bring their electric, French pop dance to the masses.  First getting notoriety when their song “Je veux te voir” made the rounds on Myspace in 2005, and finally topping the charts in France that year.  Singing exclusively in French, doesn’t seem to deter English speaking fans from filling up their shows so far on this tour. The ever so colorful Katy Perry says it right on the money, after tweeting about Yelle’s new track, Complement Fou: “I don’t’ care if I don’t understand it, I love it, and it makes my booty bounce”.  It was a wonderful night of people dancing to their heart’s delight with Julie leading the crowd for the full hour plus.

I don’t listen to a whole lot of pop or dance music these days, but there is a je ne sais quoi about Yelle.  It would seem whatever the divide in language, differences of ethnicity, sexuality or character, Yelle is here to have a good time.  Their music does bring people together no matter what the differences and that makes all the difference.
