Shad, Ty Dolla $ign, Cassey Veggies, NUE at Yonge-Dundas Square, NXNE 2015

I’ve seen Shadrach Kabango, most famously known as just simply Shad, a handful of times in my life so far. The first time I saw him was in 2007 at UOIT/Durham college’s frosh week. Good times. And then a few more times in Toronto after that. He’s good, he’s always been good. But last year, a whole bunch of things happened, and he finally got major break. 2015 is turning out to be quite the year for Shad.

The nice guy rapper from London, Ontario became the host of CBC’s most popular radio show q after the whole Jian Ghomeshi scandal. He headlined a packed show at Massey Hall. And then he replaced Action Bronson to close out Yonge-Dundas Square for the final day of NXNE.

Opening the night was controversial figure Ty Dolla $ign who actually wanted Action to be there. But Cassey Veggies and NUE were actually pretty good on the mic with their hip hop style.

Putting all of this new found success aside, placing Shad in the headlining slot after Ty felt very polarizing. Shad is one down to earth dude. A class act even and always humble. He knows how to put on a phenomenal performance. And despite the talks of the nights petitions and all, Shad saved the day, again.
