Camp Wavelength 2015 – Festival Preview

Before everyone heads back to school, Toronto gets one last kick at the summer can with the sure-to-be delightful Camp Wavelength. The three-day camping and music festival (happening Friday, August 28 through to Sunday, August 30) on Toronto Island’s Artscape Gibraltar Point boasts an exceptionally well-curated lineup of local acts. While the ferry ride is worth the trip for the scenery alone, here’s four other things to look out for at this new addition to the Toronto festival circuit.

The Bands

It wouldn’t be a music festival without the bands making the music. Luckily Wavelength know what they’re doing when it comes to programming that. They’ve rounded out their lineup with the likes of Holy Fuck, Dirty Frigs, The Wooden Sky, Moon King, Do Make Say Think, The Weather Station and many others. Whether you’re unfamiliar with or a huge fan of Toronto’s vibrant music community and scene – Camp Wavelength is definitely the best place to be.

Late Night Sets

Dig a little deeper into the lineup and you’ll find the night doesn’t just end when the headliners finish up their encores. Instead, Camp Wavelength offers late night sets until 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday night. Catch shows from Wavelength favourites like Zoo Owl, Most People, and six other artists. Sleep is for the weak, anyway.

Camping

Speaking of sleep – you don’t even have to bother with hauling yourself over to the ferries. Camp Wavelength is taking the “camp” part of their name to heart. With the purchase of a camping pass (19+ only), you’ll be able to pitch a tent and enjoy all the late night offerings guilt-free. Based on Toronto’s recent weather though, you might want to pack extra socks, 18 pairs of sweatpants, and your warmest sleeping bag. This might get a little chilly.

Things to Do

Don’t worry about being bored: it’s not going to happen. The festival has a jam-packed weekend lined up to keep you from feeling too homesick for the Toronto mainland. Whether you’re itching to make your very own zine with the Static Zine crew or go for a (possibly hungover) morning jog with The Wooden Sky, there are plenty of installations, performance art pieces, games, and activities to fill the time. Personally, I’m mentally preparing myself for a rather intense round of capture the flag care of Posi Vibez.

It’s not too late for enrolment in what promises to be a late summer highlight. Find out more information on Camp Wavelength and get your tickets here.
