MisterWives, Waters, Cruiser at The Mod Club

Toronto was making sweet memories with MisterWives as they brought their Scrapbook Tour to the Mod Club on September 24, 2015.  The buzz surrounding pop’s newest band has been growing since the 2013 release of the group’s EP, Reflections.  When their song “Vegabond” was picked to be the theme of MTV’s hit show Finding Carter, people couldn’t wait for the group’s full -length debut. The release of Our Own House cemented MisterWives place in the music world. Now it was time for the group to embark on a new chapter on their journey to success.

It was only night two of The Scrapbook Tour so no one knew what to expect, but we all knew it was going to be good. Within the first beats of “Best I Can Do”, the crowd was already off their feet and moving. The liveliness was vivid and bright, just like you would expect.  

Lead singer, Mandy Lee strong vocals and energy illuminated the entire set. From push-ups to dancing, or showcasing her talent on the percussion instruments, the girl does not slow down. And her bandmates are equally strong and energetic. MisterWives are kind of like a young No Doubt. They march to the beat of their own drum and they encourage their fans to do the same. 

“It’s your life, not theirs”  “The standards for women and men are utter shit” were just a few of the sentiments Lee would state to her fans.  She urged them to not give a damn about what others expect them to be. These same sentiments can be heard in their songs like “Hurricane”, “Not Your Way” and “Queens”.

Although the show was in support of their debut, the group included a couple of amazing covers to their set. During the intimate part of the show, they included a snippet of Dixie Chicks’ “Landslide” while performing “Coffins”.  Also they performed an impressive melody of the Weeknd’s “Cant Feel My Face” and MJ’s “P.Y.T.”  For their encore, Lee invited a fan on stage while performing Whitney Houston’s hit “ I Wanna Dance With Somebody”.

The group was basking in the glory of their successful night.  But like all good things, it was time for MisterWives to bid Toronto adieu. Lee promised the crowd, they haven’t seen the last of them. “We’ll be back soon” she echoed.  Finally the band brought out the saxophone and trumpet solos for a final crowd pleasing hurrah for “Imagination Infatuation”.
