Pusha T Hologram Party at the Great Hall

If hologram parties are the way of the future, may they always feature twerking aliens and hard rock Travis Scott covers. 

Leave it to Daily Vice and Fido Mobile to set that standard at the world’s very first Hologram Party, where comedy, technology and music blurred together for an entertaining evening in Toronto. Fans who nabbed early RSVPs and braved the cold to secure their spots at the highly intimate event were treated to an endless flow of booze, corn dogs and kettle chips, free wi-fi and a special performance from hip hop king Pusha T.

Hosted by comedian Daniel Woodrow, the #DVHologramParty also featured local talents Sean Leon and The OBGMs to turn up the vibe. In between Leon’s spitfire rhymes and The OBGMs wild performance of “Antidote”, Woodrow teased a live celebrity interview via hologram with an incoming holographic manatee and more impressively, a twerking alien that should probably go on tour with Miley Cyrus. Comedian and actor Eric Andre (FXX’s Man Seeking Woman) was the surprise digital guest, who, amidst some technical errors managed to field a few questions from the audience and find the desire to bare it all, physically speaking.

The definite highlight of the wildly unique night came from Pusha T, who served up the best of his carefully crafted and revered catalogue. Opening with the fiery “Don’t Like” made the crowd more ferocious for King Push’s forty-minute set, which drew from his critically acclaimed solo efforts My Name is My Name and 2015’s Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude. Amongst favourites like “Nosetalgia” and“Crutches, Crosses, Caskets”, the G.O.O.D. Music President also hailed some of his biggest features with peer and collaborator Kanye West. Verses from “Runaway”, “So Appalled”, “Mercy” and “New God Flow” rolled out one after the other like a continuous stream of pure vida, launching the crowd to a whole new level of hype. Before closing with Clipse classic “Grindin’”, Pusha T praised those fellow creatives in the audience and urged that they continue to think outside of the box and push forward; appropriate advice from an innovator at a futuristic event.
