Concert Reviews

Big Wreck with The Ascot Royals at the Phoenix Concert Theatre

Big Wreck performed in Toronto at the Phoenix Concert Theater to a sold out show on Friday February 17th, 2017. This show was the first of two the band would perform at this venue. The Ascot Royals was their direct support for those shows.

Big Wreck played 6 songs from their newly released studio album called Grace Street. Although this album was only released on February 3, 2017, they released their lead single “One Good Piece Of Me” November 4, 2016.

The crowd that evening was tame but appreciative, belting out in cheers especially when Toronto born front man Ian Thornley would break out into a solo. There was one particular lady standing in the front row that could not wipe the smile of her face, singing every song and enjoying the experience.

Although there wasn’t a lot of chat between songs, Thornley did mention it was great to be back in Toronto.

The two crowd highlights that evening where when Big Wreck performed “That Song” and “Lighthouse”. These songs had the crowd singing at the top of their lungs, almost overtaking the P.A system.

Bassist David McMillan opened “The Albatross” song with an energetic base solo, incorporating bits from the Queen song “Another One Bites The Dust”.

It’s great to see Big Wreck is still getting the attention that they deserve. Based on the comments coming from the crowd at the end of the show, I would easily classify it as being a success.
