Song Premiere: “Wet Hot Canadian Summer” by Blimp Rock

After unsuccessfully suing the Toronto Blue Jays, Blimp Rock received over 100 messages of hate mail. As you can imagine, this left the band feeling pretty down and dirty…so they’ve decided to release new music to wash off that dirt. Enter ‘Soap Opera’: the first album released inside a bar of soap. The second single from their new album is a perfect encapsulation of Blimp Rock’s ability to take an idea, in this case the fleeting Canadian summer, and make the song quintessential Blimp Rock. Both humorous and filled with longing, the song transcends any notion of novelty, and sends you waves of indie-rock nostalgia. With the rare combination of storytelling and pop hooks, ‘Wet Hot Canadian Summer’ is the laid back anthem for nights on the lake, wishing summer would never end.

Blimp Rock is a venture capital band founded for the purpose of raising $700K for a concert on a blimp floating above Lake Ontario.

Forming in 2012, the band set out to raise the funds through selling albums and vintage office equipment such as rolodexes and floppy discs. Despite all these efforts, Blimp Rock’s funding total currently sits at $ -2138. On the verge of financial ruin, the band/company has decided to rebrand in hopes of a clean start.

“In Southern Ontario, summertime is fleeting. I’m writing this in June and it’s below ten degrees outside. On those first few warm days people outside look like their crush just told them they’re crushing on them back. While it may sound like we recorded Wet Hot in a cloud of pot smoke, we actually recorded it high on summertime vibes: dogs in canoes, fires on the beach and shooting drones out of the sky. Happy summer 2017 everybody!” – Blimp Rock
