Descendents with The Menzingers at REBEL

Photos by Neil Van.

Old school punkers made their way to Rebel, formally known as The Sound Academy, to rock out to pop-punk pioneers, Descendents on their North American tour, with supporting acts The Menzingers.

As the night began young, The Menzingers took stage to a chanting crowd.  Playing a rather small set compared to their headliners, the Pennsylvanian natives played a range of hits including songs off their latest album, The After Party (2017). A song like, “I Don’t Wanna Be An Asshole” got the audience off their feet and creating mosh pits. It created an intense show for those who were attending a punk rock show for the first time.  They closed their set with “Remission.”

The Descendents took stage for a two hour set.  They opened their set with “Everything Sux” from their album with the same name.  A band known for pioneering the genre “Pop-Punk”, influencing many bands like Blink-182 and Green Day and many more made the night even more special.  The audience reciprocated  the energy the band was providing on stage. Promoting their latest album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate (2017), the band provided a great balance of playing songs from the newest album as well as oldies.  An elated crowd brought back to back encores towards end of the show, the first encore included “I’m The One” a fan favorite and the last encore included “ Catalina” with a small cover of The Door’s hit “Dead Cats, Dead Rats.”

Long Live Punk Rock!
