Caren is an indie folk project by artist Sharon Nutzati. With influences like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Feist, and Kathleen Edwards – Caren brings her folk roots together with producer Devon Lougheed (Hey Ocean, Smashing Satellites, Altered by Mom) in her self titled EP due out October 2017.
“Teach Me really came about in such an organic way. It was the first song I wrote for Caren, the first song Devon Lougheed and I worked on in the studio, and the song that somehow convinced my entire film crew that this was going to be something magical.
I wrote it after a break up with an abusive partner, and it was really one of the first songs in a while that just felt so right. I sent it to my childhood friend, Murphy MacDonald-Rea (Actor) to listen to and she was immediately on board. She introduced me to Kat Webber (Director/Editor,) we met up, listened to the song a lot, cried a little and it was decided.
This video was such a collaborative effort between Kat, Murphy and myself. There are tiny Easter eggs throughout the video from our own past relationships, the lucky charms, the Polaroid’s, the feather pillow, even the pants I’m wearing in the video all come from a vulnerable place for each of us. Our producer, Jackie De Niverville, was such an important part of the creation as well, she truly went above and beyond ensuring every minute detail was met.
I’m so lucky to have all these strong women on the team, but we really couldn’t have done it without our incredible crew, and our fab cameo gal! I’m so proud of what we’ve created and just hope it connects with people, and if it doesn’t, at least it’s very pretty to look at.” – Caren
