MØ with Cashmere Cat at the Danforth Music Hall

Last night, MØ and Cashmere Cat brought the 8th evening of their aptly titled MEØW Tour to a sold out Danforth Music Hall.

Norwegian DJ and producer, Cashmere Cat, performed selections from his 2017 debut, ‘9’. A dozen and a half spotlights were placed behind him, casting an eerie blue glow for the beginning of the set, while another ring of light surrounded his set up. Midway through his set, headliner MØ came onstage to perform her vocals in the album’s title track.

MØ burst onto the stage with ‘Roots’, the first track off her latest EP, ‘When I Was Young’. For the duration of her 70 minute set, she marched around the stage, belting notes while on her knees, leaning into the barrier, surfing the crowd, and accenting beats with high kicks. Not one to hide behind a microphone and a song, she looked the audience straight in the eye, and gave them a first hand account of her performance prowess.

An acoustic rendition of Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ had the crowd singing along enthusiastically. Though the studio version of the chart-topping tune features MØ in the bridge and Justin Bieber during the verses and chorus, the texture of MØ’s voice during the chorus’ high notes were a special treat.

A cover of Charli XCX’s ‘Porsche’ and an enthusiastic rendition of ‘Drum’ had the crowd bouncing along. ‘Lean On’, MØ’s most successful tune to date, served as a bookends to her main set, and her Snakehips collaboration ‘Don’t Leave’ commenced a two song encore that culminated in the well-timed ‘Final Song’.
