World Premiere

Video Premiere : “Centauri” by Amy Owens ft Charles Yang

From The Artist : “‘Centauri’ refers to the binary star Alpha Centauri AB, which consists of two stars that are so close together that they appear to be a single star, one of the brightest in the night sky. The idea that two stars in proximity shine brighter is a beautiful metaphor for human interaction and brushes with love. That’s what this piece is about. A theme rises up from one voice calling for a companion, who responds with his own variation on the theme, and the two voices build and weave together to a climactic burst of musical energy. It is sensual, primitive, and expansive: two together brighter than one.

It was thrilling to collaborate with Charles on this piece. His heart is made of music and his composition and expression is honest. The voice and violin are equal partners in this, and since there are no lyrics, the narrative is told completely through music. We hope you enjoy the journey!”

Amy Owens has made her mark in the world of classical performance. With a voice Bruce Hodges of Musical America declared as having “…impressive accuracy and thrilling high notes,” Amy Owens brings rebellious fun to a traditionally strict musical world. With the music video “Centauri”, Owens joins forces with renowned violinist and member of the classically trained string-trio,Time for Three, Charles Yang, to create a mesmerising musical experience.

Filmed in the beautiful Moab, Utah, the music video shows Owens and Yang coming together, in a tentative curious progression. It is as if the music pulls the two together. The exquisite violin of Charles Yang compliments the fierce precision of Amy Owens’ vocals. Together they create a harmonic explosion!

Just as Amy Owens pushes the musical boundaries, Charles Yang has not allowed himself to be confined to the strictness of classical music, making this partnership nothing less than marvelous. The 2018 Leonard Bernstein Award winning, Juilliard graduate has performed as a violinist, electric violinist, and vocalist on many stages including The Aspen Music Festival, The YouTube Music Awards, Lincoln Center’s Metropolitan Opera House, and more. Both artists approach their craft with fiery passion that pushes the envelope.

Amy Owens has always been a believer in the power of collaboration with “Centauri” coming off Owens’ unique project HAETHOR. The album is a collaboration with Howard Wulkan, and allowed Owens to explore songwriting, music production, and musical experimentation. The album is set for release on March 15th, so be sure to check it out!
