Dead Broke has shared their new single ‘Abattoir’. The song marks the third look into their upcoming album, When The Night Comes In, which will be available on September 22nd.
Commenting on the new song, Michael Bright said: “This one is big for me. Probably one of the biggest thrills as a songwriter for me was figuring out this arrangement. Rachel and I both worked in a meat packing facility (Abattoir) when we were teenagers. By the time I was writing the song, it had probably been 7 or 8 years since being there and I hadn’t really considered how strangely significant the experience had been. As I approached the lyrics, I summoned up who I was at the time and how I felt while I was there. The facility was ice cold, loud and draining. These harsh conditions, paired with the fact that you don’t really speak during the work, led to feelings and periods of isolation. Spending such formative years working in this setting, especially during the summer months, can do a number on your mind. Abattoir reflects on breaking out of these constricting and isolating binds and not becoming cold and draining like your daily surroundings.”
Pre-orders for the album are currently available here.
