Cage the Elephant with Young the Giant at Budweiser Stage

Toronto’s Budweiser Stage buzzed with anticipation as Cage the Elephant prepared for a night of raw energy and infectious rock vibes. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the venue’s atmosphere transformed from a casual summer night into a throbbing hive of excitement.

When Cage the Elephant finally emerged, the crowd erupted in cheers. Lead vocalist Matt Schult scooted out on his recently acquired knee walker since he broke his foot early into the tour. He may not have been jumping around as usual but he was constantly on the move regardless. He noted that he has been inspired to find new ways to incorporate it into the show. That’s a dedicated performer folks!

Broken Boy’s gritty guitar riffs and punchy rhythm set the tone for a night of music and mayhem. The setlist was a masterful blend of fan favourites and new material. Songs like “Spiderhead” and “Cold Cold Cold” were met with rapturous applause. Songs from the new album included the title track “Neon Pill” and “Good Time”. Mixing in “Ready To Let Go” and “Halo” showed the band’s ability to seamlessly transition from high-octane anthems to more introspective moments.

Midway through the performance, the band took a moment to acknowledge the crowd, Matt expressing his gratitude just to be there in the moment with everyone after coming through a tumultuous few years. This genuine expression reveals the reality that we all have the ability to overcome our struggles.

The visuals and lighting design were equally impressive. Strobe lights, vibrant colours, and dynamic projections complemented the music, enhancing the overall sensory experience. During “Rainbow” the stage was awash with pulsating lights that perfectly mirrored the song’s vibrancy with a spectrum of colour brightening the stage.

Cage the Elephant closed out the set with “In One Ear” and the frenetic “Sabertooth Tiger” leaving the crowd in a frenzy. Toning things down a little in the encore starting with “Shake Me Down” and the Djjo cover “End Of Beginning”. “Cigarette Daydreams and “Come A Little Closer” sent the fans home smiling. To everyone’s delight, the rain held off for a fantastic evening of fun and music.
