The Toxhards Unmask “Mr. Clifford”

Theatrical alt-rock oddities, The Toxhards, have today released their latest track, “Mr. Clifford”, a gleefully deranged anthem based on the true story of Clifford Clinton and the kind of off-kilter storytelling that catapulted their smash hit “ÆNGUS, The Prize-Winning Hog” into millions of views. Out now via Hopeless Records, the brand new track flips the perspective to the corrupt politicians painting Clifford Clinton as a neighborhood nuisance with messiah complex tendencies, political delusions, and a smile that never quite reaches the eyes.

Set against a manic, sing along groove, “Mr. Clifford” finds The Toxhards relishing a caricature of charm gone rotten. Equal parts creepy and catchy, the song builds its world around a figure who promises everything, poisons the well, and leaves the whole block wondering how things got so strange.

Following their previous single, “ALLIGATOR CROCODILE”, The Toxhards continue to do what they do best – taking bizarre, specific characters and turning them into something universally entertaining. Weirdly fun, “Mr. Clifford” delivers the band’s trademark blend of bite, humor, and theatrical chaos.

To shed light on the historical madness that sparked “Mr. Clifford”, Casey Donovan explains:

““Based on true historical events, MR. CLIFFORD takes us back to 1938 Los Angeles to tell the tale of real-life social activist and restauranteur, Clifford Clinton (aka Mr. Clifford), in his efforts to take down the city’s corrupt mayor and his cronies. The establishment tried everything to silence him, including bombing his home and attacking his restaurant, but his determination for justice and popularity with the people of Los Angeles proved to be too strong and the evil regime was ousted from public office. MR. CLIFFORD tells this story from the perspective of the corrupt politicians trying desperately to paint him as the villain before they meet their comeuppance. With a sound like a rocked-up Talking Heads and B-52s (and a dash of the Weezer-esque), this track is a wacky, wild ride through history that will have you moshing, dancing, and maybe even learning a thing or two!”
