The Toronto FC players walked off the field today shaking their heads and wondering how they could lose a game they dominated at times. 10-men Sporting FC stole one in front of 22,000 at BMO Field.
Toronto FC scored early in the 16th minute when Jackson found himself wide-open and then taking time to strategically place the ball past the keeper and a sliding defender for the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Sporting FC tied the game on a mad scramble that saw TFC defenders and keeper Bendik save a few shots before Zusi blasted a shot from distance into the empty TFC net as Bendik scrambled to get back into position. TFC 1 Sporting FC 1
A few minutes later Sporting FC were down to 10-men as Matt Besler picked up a second yellow card after a tackle made just outside the box on Orduro, giving TFC a great scoring chance and free-kick. In my opinion it wasn’t a foul and Orduro made a complete meal of the tackle. Toronto FC were unfortunate not to score a few more goals but they completely wasted a few great scoring opportunities.
Just like Toronto FC history in the past, the last few minutes of the game come back to haunt them. Sporting FC scored in the 80th minute when former Toronto FC player Jacob Peterson took a nice heal pass and one-timed the ball into the back of the net and sealed 3 valuable points in the standings.
