Betty Who at The Mod Club

Who is Betty Who? You may know her from the insanely viral video of a Home Depot flash mob wedding proposal  or possibly you heard one of her songs in stores such as Forever 21, but the question still remains who is Betty Who? Well she’s probably the biggest pop star you’ve never heard of.

Following the success of her Slow Dancing EP, the adorable Australian songstress has been charming audience with dance pop gems including “Somebody Loves You”, “High Society”, and her latest single “Heartbreak Dream”.  To her fans (also known as Who Crew), she became the best kept secret in the music industry. On the heels of her debut release, Take Me Where You Go, Betty Who is ready for everyone to know her name. She and her band will embark on a month long journey called The High Society Tour which promises to be unforgettable.

With her platinum blonde pixie cut, Betty Who opens up her set with “High Society” which featured a snippet of NSYNC‘s “I Want You Back”. Sporting a leather jacket, pink crop top and a cheerleader style skirt, Betty danced like its 1983 all over again. It’s clear that Betty finds inspiration in older artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Bruce Springsteen.

Her stage presence was a mixture of those who inspire her. Her style was bold, understated, retro yet fresh.  And she was clearly winning the hearts of those in attendance, as they too danced along with the dream pop sensation.

The set was compiled of all tracks from Take Me Where You Go which I’m sure her fans were thankful for.  Delicately wrapped with a mature presentation, she sang with such youthful angst. And if you’re a sucker for choir-esque arrangements, then Miss Who’s got you covered.  The band’s simplistically structured 80’s inspired synth-pop backing, only electrified Betty’s performance.

Finally, it was time for the song that put her on the radar. With Betty Who playing the perfect conductor, “Somebody Loves You” turned the Mod Club into a massive sing-a-long. It was evident that Betty Who left a huge impression on Toronto. By the end of the night, you’ll literally want to have her album on repeat for days. With her high society confidence; by the end of this tour, nobody will have to wonder who Betty Who is.
