Walk The Moon

We had the amazing opportunity to sit down and talk with Walk The Moon before they hit the stage at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto.

LiL : Hey Guys! Were at the Danforth Music Hall today with the wonderful guys of Walk The Moon! How’s it going?

Nick Petricca (NP): Pretty great! How are you?

LiL: I’m good thanks! Could you guys introduce yourself to our readers and tells us your roll in the band?

Kevin Ray (KR): I’m Kevin, and I play bass.

Nick Petricca : I’m Nick and I’m the lead singer.

Eli Maiman (EM) : I’m Eli and I play guitar.

Sean Wauguman (SW) : I’m Sean and I play the drums.

LiL : First off, congratulations of the success of Talking Is Hard, you guys were recently featured on Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel and quite a few other big late night shows. Last time you were here you played at Lee’s Palace, and tonight you’ve sold out the Danforth! What has been on of your most memorable moments thus far?

NP : The fact that you said we sold out the Danforth Music Hall! I didn’t know that tonight’s show sold out.  We also like playing Canada because we do enjoy our poutine!

LiL: Have you guys had the chance to try out Smoke’s Poutinerie?

NP: Yeah! We love going to that place, we’ll probably end up there after the show tonight.

LiL: Awesome! What’s your favourite poutine to order from there?

NP : I like getting the traditional

SW : I tried one with guac on it, it was a weird idea but tasted pretty good!

EM : I’m a good Jewish boy, so sometimes I go for the poutine that has a really nice piece of smoked meat.

LiL: Your song Shut Up And Dance was recently featured on Dancing With The Stars, can you describe to us your go to dance move?

KR : We’re not that great at dancing, we just kinda do whatever.

EM : Funny thing is we get this question all the time since that song was released, yet we are never prepared for it. You’d think we’d have something prepared by now.

SW : I kinda just like to rub my belly and pat my head.

NP: which looks hilarious when he is behind the drums.

LiL : You guys recently supported All Time Low and You Me At Six on their arena tour in the UK. How was the experience playing shows such as the O2 arena? Did you prefer that experience over playing clubs?

NP: It was very different, since we were only opening not a lot of people knew who we were, but when we play sold out shows like this, our fans really bring it and it feels as if we are playing a sold out arena!

LiL : One thing I find really unique about your live shows is that you write your setlists on paper plates, where did the idea behind that come from?

SW: It’s easier to throw into the crowd after the show than trying to throw a piece of paper.

NP: We also used to put paint in them and leave them at the entrance of the venue so that fans could paint their faces before the show, but now the fans just kinda bring their own.

EM: They’re multipurpose!

LiL : ahah that’s pretty awesome! You guys have a wonderful stage presence as well,  where do you draw your energy from?

NP: We draw it from the crowd, they are always so energetic and it really gets us going!

LiL: You guys also do this really cool thing on social media called #FanArtFriday. What has one of your favourite pieces of fan art that you’ve seen so far?

KR: That’s a tough one, all of the pieces are really unique and cool.

NP : one of the ones that sticks out was a piñata a fan gave us in Portland, I think it was, and it’s filled with positive messages. The girl who gave it to us called it the piñata project and collected the messages from fans on tumblr. We haven’t cracked the piñata open yet, we don’t have the heart to.

SW : yeah, he has his own bunk on the bus,

Eli: and  likes to watch Netflix!
