Hey Friends!
This week, I will be featuring “100 Million” by Charlie Hilton.
She is most recognized for her work with band “Blouse” however, this song is from her debut album “Palana” which was released on January 22nd, 2016 with Captured Tracks.
Captured Tracks is a record label located in Brooklyn,NY. It began in 2008 in the basement of Academy Records, as well in Brooklyn. 2010 brought the label more success with signing DIIV, Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing, and more.
To be honest, I first listened to this song because it said it was featuring Mac Demarco (being one of my favourite artists). I found that very misleading because he is not even featured in the song until the last verse. However, I still loved the song. Frankly, I might’ve not even listened to the song if it didn’t have his name in it so in a sense it’s a good thing because it almost gives you a push to listen to the song, which is pretty awesome. When I saw it I was like “ Hey, I don’t know who this girl is but she must be good because Mac Demarco’s in it”, so she’s definitely lucky to have that to grab peoples attention. The first time I heard it, I ended up listening to it for about 45 minutes straight.
I absolutely love this song, the lyrics, musicality, everything about it. I enjoy the “gentleness” of it, and how soft her voice is. I like Mac Demarco being featured at the end – I think he definitely could have been featured more in it however, it is a nice touch. I really like the guitar riff that you hear in the beginning of the song and is continuously heard throughout, it’s catchy. I think it definitely has a psychedelic kind of feel to it as well. This song is pretty nostalgic, but it’s a nice listen. I hope you all love it as much as I do!
Lyrics:
Those are the arms, beautiful when they hold me
Those are the words, poetry calls, it told me
I’m a willow, you can carve your name on me
We’ll laugh about it at the bottom of the sea
These are the songs I’ll never get to sing to you
Put them away, keep them until they ring true
I’m a fountain you can pure yourself in me
We’ll laugh about it at the bottom of the sea
We drink the water
One day it hits the sand
We touch each other
One day we’ll understand
We fall in love but we keep falling down, we
We fall right through a hundred million centuries
And that was the day you had me because I found you
These are the stars, perfect when they surround you
I’m a sparrow, can you hear my reverie
We’ll laugh about it at the bottom of the sea
We drink the water
One day it hits the sand
We touch each other
One day we’ll understand
We fall in love but we keep falling down, we
We fall right through a hundred million centuries
