The Frights are an Indie band based out of San Diego. The trio began as a prank. It was supposed to be a “joke band” that were supposed to play one 30 minute set however, this ended up resulting in becoming a “real band”. They were formed in the Summer of 2012 by Mikey Carnevale (guitar/vocals), Richard Dotson (bassist/vocals), and Adam Lomnitzer (drums). During this show, the person who ran Postmark Records (a smaller local label) was in the audience and enjoyed the set, offering them some work. They accepted the offer and released their first EP in March 2013.
This week, I have chosen “Tungs” from their new album “You Are Going to Hate This”, which was released on February 12th, 2016. I dig the counted in intro, and I feel like this song almost has a tropical kind of vibe to it. The rhythm8 and overall sound of the song definitely reminds me of Summer, but if you listen to the lyrics its actually kind of aggressive. I really do enjoy the honesty within the lyrics; “Have you seen my shoes? Cuz they’ve been ripped to shit from walking the world for you.” So basically he’s pissed off, and the lyrics are kind of sad in a way, but it still results in being a really fun song from rhythm and instrumentals.
For if we ain’t got the time
I tell you baby I don’t think we’re doing fine.
We just haven’t got a clue.
I’ll keep my love I want my blood inside of you.
Do you think I’m cute
Is it too late to check
And I don’t care you got your tongue against my neck
Do you like my style?
Have you seen my shoes?
Cuz they’ve been ripped to shit from walking the world for you.
Everybody knows I’m right.
I can’t control it got my eyes on you all night.
