In an announcement released on Thursday, the organizers of Record Store Day have revealed that their 2022 RSD Ambassador is Taylor Swift, and it’s more than fitting. In 2021 alone, Swift managed to move more than double the amount of vinyl than any other artist thanks to the release of Red (Taylor’s Version), Folklore, and Evermore – which totaled over 700,000 units in the US. In the early days of the pandemic, she also provided relief for a small business in Nashville, Grimey’s New & Preloved Music, with salaries for each of their employees along with three months worth of health care.
With that in mind, it seems like a perfect fit to have Swift be the 2022 RSD Ambassador after everything she has done for the vinyl community. In the statement released by RSD, Swift said “I’m very proud to be this year’s Global Ambassador for Record Store Day. The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me. Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion. They create settings for live events. They employ people who adore music thoroughly and purely. Those people and shops have had a rough few years and we need to support these small businesses more now than ever to make sure they can stay alive, stay eccentric, and stay individual. It’s been a true joy for me to watch vinyl sales grow in the past few years and we, the artists, have the fans to thank for this pleasant surprise. Happy Record Store Day, everyone! Stay safe out there.”
Additionally, Swift is planning a special release for RSD and details will be released in the coming weeks along with the full list of titles to be included this year. You can keep up to date with the latest RSD news on their website.
