Song Premiere : “What if I love you” – Nurdjana

Nurdjana is a Canadian vocalist who was born and raised in the Netherlands. She’s been immersed in music ever since as a little girl she tagged along with her dad, Rob de Rijcke.

He was a singer/songwriter and guitarist and when Nurdjana started singing it was only natural to start making music together.

Rob was a composer of dreamy songs full of love and sadness. Nurdjana and her dad won songwriter competitions, recorded music and played lots of gigs together. He was a modest man and modesty doesn’t bring fortune and fame. But that was not what he was after. He was only after poetry and that was what he found.

Nurdjana is a true advocate of her father’s music and after taking a break from singing when he passed away, she is back full force; determined to put her dad’s music back in the spotlight. Her sound has been described as delicate, yet soulful and jazzy.

Her first EP ‘Coming Home’ will be released May 10th. All songs are written either by Rob or by the duo of father and daughter, some completed by Nurdjana after he passed away. “What if I love you” is a moving song about the back and forth in a relationship, and we’re happy to team up with Nurdjana to premiere her new song today!

From The Artist : My dad, Rob de Rijcke, wrote so many amazing songs. He would play them for me and I would decide if it was something that suited me. Either love at first sight or nothing, I would know immediately if I could find myself within it. That was the case too with “What if I love you”. After he passed away, I went through the music he left me and found this idea on an old tape. The song got stuck in my head; I knew I had to finish and record it. It took a while to find my own meaning. His lyrics can be quite cryptic and leave a lot to the imagination. I love that about his songwriting. But it meant I had to dig deep to give it my own story. It’s about the back and forth in a relationship. You’re one foot out the door but you keep trying because you know that if you can make it work, it will feel weightless, like the best thing you’ve ever experienced. On May 10th, you’ll hear more of our collaborations in my Coming Home EP.
