Based in Penticton, British Columbia, pop artist, Chayce Kennedy was inspired early on by the sounds of Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. She knew she wanted to pursue music when she attended a Taylor Swift concert and observed the ways that the artist positively influenced and interacted with the audience. As an emerging artist and songwriter, Chayce captured the interest of Juno award-winning producer Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Jocelyn Alice, Carys), who collaborated with the young artist on three of her first five single releases between 2021 and 2022. After digging deeper as a songwriter, Chayce spent most of 2023 working closely with Stewart and Grammy award-winning producer Brian West (Sia, Maroon 5, Nelly Furtado) on her debut EP, “Yours Truly”. Slated for release in 2024, the five-song collection brings out the personal struggles, thoughts, feelings, and fears that Chayce has experienced.
An energetic, upbeat pop love song with dreamy, hopeful lyrics, “Mr. Super Fine” exudes the same bubbly happiness that strikes the heartstrings when the possibility of love is within one’s grasp. Today we’re very excited to be teaming up with Chayce to give our readers an exclusive behind the scenes look at the track, which is also the first single off of her upcoming EP.
My name is Chayce Kennedy. I am a singer/songwriter/ performer from Penticton, BC. I have loved music for as long as I can remember. Over the past 7 months, I’ve been working on my debut EP, “Yours Truly” and the first single is here! It’s called “Mr. Super Fine” Live Limbo has asked me to take you Behind the Song! Let’s do it!
The inspiration for “Mr. Super Fine” is based on my experiences with romance and love. I’m only 19, so it involves dates and relationships that I’ve had along the way so far. “Mr. Super Fine” is about the feelings I get towards someone when things are shiny and new, and I’m curious and excited and hopeful things will work out. In that moment with this new someone, I think they are quite special. It’s really just an exciting time finding someone new that you seem to click with, so I wanted to bring that energy out in the story and style of the song.
I wrote “Mr. Super Fine” sitting at my piano one afternoon when I was playing around with chords.
I decided that I wanted to make a happy, bubby, love song based on that instant connection when you first meet someone and want it to last.
I knew I wanted it to be part of my EP the moment I wrote it, so I started tweaking “Mr. Super Fine” with my longtime mentor, Roark Critchlow the day after I wrote it. We wanted to get it studio ready as we were heading to Vancouver in a couple weeks to start recording.
Ryan Stewart produced “Mr. Super Fine” and helped tweak some lyrics and build the bridge. Ryan is such a talented songwriter and producer, he always brings my visions to life.
Obviously being in the studio is such an inspirational time, building a story I wrote with all the pro production elements – music, big drums, crazy sounds, and harmonies. It’s magic when the song comes to life! The process is so exciting to then end up with a song I am so proud of.
In my opinion, I feel that “Mr. Super Fine” can really be for anyone who has felt this feeling of finding their own “Mr. Super Fine”, whether it’s a lasting thing, or maybe a temporary moment and experience with someone – until they find their REAL, lifelong someone who ends up being their one and only “Mr. Super Fine”.
Life is all about experiences and I’m sure many people go through similar experiences on the way to finding a lifelong partner.
It’s all an adventure – and so much fun!
Thanks Live in Limbo!
