Ok so this is what NXNE is all about. I have to admit going into the festival I didn’t know much about warpaint. Having heard a couple songs on their myspace page I thought perhaps they were a little too mellow for me. I decided to take a chance and as I walked into the crowded Horseshoe Tavern and heard the sweeping base and haunting vocals I knew instantly that I had made the right choice. Warpaint is an all female quartet out of Los Angeles, California that have put together the perfect combination of hypnotic vocals, shoegaze guitar and a deep driving rhythm section that can keep you in a trance or get you up and dancing.
Warpaint are made up of Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar), Theresa Wayman (vocals,guitar), Jenny Lee Lindberg (vocals,bass), and Stella Mozagawa (drums). They are scheduled to play Lollapalooza, Reading Festival and as I just found out today will be back in Toronto @ Wrongbar on August 11.
