Before the show went down, all media personelle got a nice chance to meet and greet and socialize with people in the industry. This is always a great way to make some good connections!
I actually got a chance to talk with Nate, front-man of The Midway State, who performed a charity show for the kids at The Hospital for Sick Children just last week. They are great guys !
The award show kicked off with a hip-hop group from Thunderbay, Ontario called Burnz N Hell followed by heavy metal band Desperate Union.
Presenters of the show included the likes of Nate, Melissa Auf der Maur and the guys from USS.
The show was divided into a performance stage where featured indie bands would go all out and play four of their best tracks. And in between, two awards would be presented to nominees on a separate “award presentation” stage. The crowd was placed right in the middle of the two stages so they didn’t miss a thing. Also, this allowed for a quick set and instrument change for the next band’s set.
Overall, the event was pretty organized and moved at a fast pace.
Up next was one of the best new Canadian bands today! Plants and Animals lit up the stage and got the crowd rockin to some good old Canadian indie rock.
