Review: Ke$ha at Koolhaus

Cliches and kitsch aside Ke$ha treated the crowd to a bona fide pop performance on Wednesday night. The popstar notorious for her party-party attitude brought along a dance crew, costume changes, and rave-style lighting for a near hour and a half performance that covered all her hits including the breakout “Tik Tok” There was hardly a lull in the evening with dancers decked in literal costumes including a pear (yes, like the fruit) and a part of the male anatomy for the not-so-subtle track “Grow A Pear”. Unfortunately mid-way through the show Ke$ha went for a power-ballad that fell flat and only recouped when the lights came back up and the party anthems resumed. All in all though, Ke$ha put on a pure pop performance that proves to any of her critics that she’s got the audience eating out of the palm of her hand.

If you happened to be walking along Queen’s Quay on the evening of Wednesday, April 6 I’m certain you witnessed something along the lines of scantily clad underage girls covered in mass amounts of glitter and dollar signs drawn on their skin not-so-discretely sipping from McDonald’s cups. Sure, it’s not your typical mid-week sighting but put these girls into the context of a Ke$ha concert and you’ve got a sold-out show at the Kool Haus. While you’re at it, throw in an opening act that calls himself “Beardo The Trailer Park Hero” that looks like a bad 80’s movie in human form, and you’ve got yourself a party.
