The Script at Kool Haus – May 31, 2011

The Script played Toronto for their very first time on Tuesday. After seeing the sold out crowd and the excitement on all of the fan’s faces, it made you wonder what took them so long to finally venture over here. This power trio from Dublin, Ireland has won the hearts of many back home and is rapidly gaining popularity in North America.

I was really surprised to see the diverse group of fans this band had attracted. They were able to bring families, friends, kids and couples both young and old together to come and watch them play. I even saw an elderly couple there singing along to every song! But putting that aside, there is something really special about The Script. They are not your typical band where the lead singer does all the talking throughout the show and you can’t really see the drummer as they are tucked away in the back. In fact all three of them sing and play multiple instruments on stage throughout the night, and they have their stage set up so that all three members are up front so everyone can see them. The Script also ensures to make the crowd feel like family, they shared stories throughout the night telling the audience how songs came about,  and cracking jokes. Front man Danny O’Donoghue was constantly jumping off of the stage and going up to the barricade to sing with the fans.

Even though this was their first time playing in Toronto, you could have never guessed it! Kool Haus seemed to have been over packed, and The Script themselves said that they were not expecting such a big crowd and everyone in the audience to know every single word to all of their songs. The genuine happiness and shock on their faces really reflected in their stellar performance, and that is something you hardly see at shows today.

This may have been their first time here, but it definitely will not be the last.
