Carrie Underwood at Air Canada Centre – December 9, 2012

Photographs and Review by Sean Chin

Carrie Underwood continued her magnificent 2012 spectacle as she stormed through the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Sunday night. As part of “The Blown Away” tour, which began in May 2012, this was Underwood’s third major tour in support of her latest same-named fourth album. From looking at the set list, any fan can tell that she has finely tuned the tour to balance the pace of her shows with energy, charm, and powerful emotions. This show starts off with a dramatic opening sequence depicting a prairie farm suddenly being attacked by a tornado. This felt like a scene from the Wizard of Oz and Underwood was our Dorothy for the night.

Underwood kicked off the show with a energetic and catchy “Good Girl”. “Undo It” and “Wasted”. The crowd in Toronto was also very responsive to the spectacular light show and stage setup. Other top hits were all performed such as “All American Girl”, “Cowboy Casanova” and of course “Before He Cheats”. Being a former American Idol winner, the world got to see her journey from start to present. And Underwood doesn’t disappoint, as her vocals and ability to connect with the audience are stronger than ever. By being given so many opportunities at the beginning of her singing career, Underwood is now doing a great deed by giving back. To help with the recent tragedies with the weather in the US, she announced that for every ticket on “The Blown Away” North American tour sold, $1 will be donated to the Red Cross disaster relief effort.

After seeing Underwood perform live for the first time, I am not surprised that her fans continue to embrace her work. She lives up to the title of American Idol and really created a name for herself and has a lot more to offer in the future.
