As we approach the mid-point to 2016, there are still plenty of emerging artists on the horizon to take note of in the coming months. Universal Music Canada invited us for a sneak peek at some of the fantastic local and international artists carving their place in the North American music landscape during Canadian Music Week.
Passengers boarding the NextIs flight to the best new music included the charming Tor Miller and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Tori Kelly, who followed her sold-out performance at Massey Hall with an acoustic set that included hit “Hollow”. As a hub for Canadian music culture, it was exciting to see Toronto artists Jahkoy, Alx Veliz and Lucas DiPasquale share their diverse sounds through a mix of R&B, acoustic guitar and club rhythms. The night drew to a close when Pitch Perfect 2 star Hailee Steinfeld shared impeccable acoustic renditions of her breakout hit “I Love Me” and current chart-climber “Rock Bottom”, featuring DNCE. If there is anything that we took away, it’s that we are definitely on board for this journey.
Special thank you to Universal Music Canada for having us!
