5 Acts that has us excited for Secret Solstice 2017

Secret Solstice, in its 4th incarnation, promises to live up to its memo of ‘making the impossible seem possible’. Name me another festival that hosts an acoustic show in a Lava Tunnel

Would you want to miss out on partying with dance-music mega duo Dusky in a glacier ?

While the festival does attract various heavyweights in their genres (Foo Fighters, The Prodigy, Rick Ross, Big Sean), it is not coy about showing off gems from their own land.

Here are 5 Icelandic Acts that has me excited about Secret Solstice 2017:

💡 The act is legit, as per validation or praise from credible music journalists

❗ What LiL finds cool about the act

 Intriguing about the act.

1. Alvia Islandia

💡 Dazed calls her Iceland’s trap queen

❗ She is sponsored by Hubba Bubba,  not because of cash but unlimited supply of gum

Rumor has it, at her performances, she throws out original flavour of the gum. Sounds chewy?

2. GKR

💡 VICE claims he is about to put Icelandic hip-hop on the map

❗ The man raps about breakfast and manages to talk about dealing with depression with a positive attitude

Speaking of breakfast, his last mixtape was sold in grocery stores in Reykavik in cereal boxes .

3. Soffía Björg

💡 Line of Best Fit calls her voice “at points deep, at others freeing it up in ways similar to Neko Case

❗ Her music video for the hit single ‘I Lie’, features voiceover work by famous Icelandic-American actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (he was the helicopter pilot in Secret Life of Walter Mitty)

She moonlights as a tour guide on Langjökull, the second largest glacier in Iceland, where she yells at tourists who wear heels and no sweater

4. Kiasmos

💡 Pitchfork said their single ‘Bent’ had ‘light orchestral touches and piano phrases that radiate … adding an air of sophisticated musicality’. That’s high praise considering Pitchfork rarely says nice things

❗ At their live shows, the duo perfectly pairs ethereal visuals heightening the minimalistic nature of their musical styling

Ólafur Arnalds is a BAFTA (British Oscars) winner for Best Original Music for hit British TV series Broadchurch

The Vintage Caravan

💡 The band signed a deal with German mega metal label Nuclear Blast after only been a band for 5 years

❗ Listen to ‘Expand your Mind’ or ‘Midnight Meditation’ and you will be transported to the psychedelic 60s and 70s and have the urge to do acid.

The band played their first metal festival at 2006 Eistnaflug, and the, then 12 year olds were only allowed to enter the venue if accompanied with their parents.

So what are you waiting for? Get your tickets and hop on a plane to Iceland for Secret Solstice!
