Anthrax with Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada at The Danforth Music Hall

All hell broke loose at the Danforth Music Hall as Anthrax and Killswitch Engage brought their KillThrax Tour to Toronto.

Opening for the tour was The Devil Wears Prada. They did a fantastic job getting the crowd warmed up, as lead vocalist Mike Hranica roamed the stage delivering his incredibly recognizable vocal style. Hranica’s vocals were a stark contrast from the clean vocals provided by rhythm guitarist, Jeremy DePoyster, but they complimented each other very well.

Killswitch Engage put on an incredible set. As soon as the band hit the stage playing ‘Hate By Design’, the crowd absolutely lost it and crowd surfing ensued. Killswitch’s set list also included songs such as ‘Numbered Days’, ‘A Bid Farewell’, and ‘My Curse’. Guitarist, Adam Dutkiewicz’s, stage presence was also to take note of during the band’s performance. Armed with his sweatband and knee brace, he bounced around and goofed off during the set; entertaining the crowd but never missing a beat.

Closing out the night was Anthrax. Opening their set with ‘Among The Living’, vocalist Joey Belladonna appeared on stage pumping his half mic stand into the air as the rest of the band followed. Belladonna really worked the stage throughout the performance as he enthusiastically engaged with the fans near and far while holding down vocal duties. As the night continued, the band treated fans to songs such as ‘Caught In A Mosh’, ‘Medusa’, and ‘Blood Eagle Wings’, before closing their set out with ‘Indians’.

What I really enjoyed about this tour was the fact that it was able to bring 3 generations of metal together. As you looked around the venue, the diversity of the crowd was evident but one thing was for sure – everyone was having a good time head banging and moshing through all three performances.
