From The Artist : ‘‘I’ll be the lighter’ is about remembering the best times in love to help get through the tougher times. Celebrating knowing everything about someone. To me it’s that motorcycle ride, the flame that starts the fire that’ll never burn out.’
Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (MBF) is a singer and songwriter from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. With influences ranging from Springsteen to Simon, Fitzgerald has spent his career thus far as an international touring and recording artist. He’s performed in clubs, theatres and festivals across North America and Europe.
Fitzgerald has been diligently crafting his forthcoming album with Grammy award winning producer Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Ra Ra Riot, Buddy Guy, Wavves). Album slated for release September 21, 2018 as a follow up to I Wanna Make It With You (2016 – Treasure Island/Fontana) and YES (2013 – Trauma/Universal). These new recordings will be released on Fitzgerald’s imprint Treasure Island Recs (Fontana).
New single ‘I’ll Be The Lighter’ presents him as a cross section of 80s Springsteen fist bump theatrics and modern pop production. Fitzgerald’s voice conveys both hope and venerability, gliding across multiple luminous melodic synth lines. But the secret ingredient to the track comes down from the honest viewpoint and classic approach to songwriting. Never does the song feel manufactured or forced. Each line is sung with a conviction that separates itself from radio fodder with a genuine sense of connection. Heartfelt and infectious, ‘I’ll Be The Lighter’ is your perfect mid-summer anthem.
