From The Artist : “The feelings of disconnect and loneliness can still creep up, but writing “The Skin I’m In” and sharing my experience is incredibly healing. “The Skin I’m In,” my new single, was inspired by the idea that, as humans, we have so much to battle against… body norms, mental health struggles, societal norms, gender norms.
I hope that this song will make you feel less alone. I hope that you will feel even a sliver of belonging… that you are perfect and beautiful and unique in your own way. Taking steps to feeling safe and solid in your own body and skin is hard, but it is possible with the right people around you.
No one deserves to feel less than, or unwanted, or ashamed of themselves.”
JUNO Award nominated artist Amanda Rheaume is starting out 2019 by releasing a new single and video. “The Skin I’m In” is a deeply personal, empowering folk track. The song is accompanied by an emotional visual which directly resonates with the viewer.
Amanda has always felt in between the stereotypes of certain communities for most of her life. Not gay enough but not feminine enough, not Indigenous enough but also not conventional.
The new single unabashedly tackles these issues. With subtle roots arrangements enveloping Amanda’s rich but raw vocals, the song’s gorgeous soul shines through with every uplifting chord. This is a song to help people deal with trauma and have the capacity to be comfortable with who they are, and who they want to be.
Amanda is currently preparing to release her new record, which will come out Feb 15th.
