Pitchfork Festival Day 2: St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, Waxahatchee, Jamila Woods

On Saturday, indie group Waxahatchee (fronted by the whimsical Katie Crutchfield) slowed things down and gave fans a soft, dreamy set on a warm afternoon. Waxahatchee’s most recent album, Saint Cloud, was released at the beginning of the pandemic, meaning the band had to postpone their tour. Fans were finally able to hear those songs live last Saturday. St. Vincent, a semi-regular act at Pitchfork, also played new, never before heard live songs from her most recent album, Daddy’s Home. St. Vincent’s persona is ever-evolving (think David Bowie in the 70s and 80s), and her new, blues and funk-driven album has given birth to a new look. St. Vincent came onstage in a 70s style suit and skirt with a bright blonde coif, staring blankly out at the sea of fans. Her headlining show was the most dynamic and engaging of the weekend.
