Behind The Video : “Stompin’ Ground” – Jaimey Hamilton

With influences such as Hailey Whitters, Miranda Lambert and Carly Pearce, Jaimey Hamilton brings raw lyricism and vivid life experiences to her artistry as she finds her way in the Canadian Country music scene. Her captivating performances on stage and in the studio are punctuated by charming vocals, polished guitar skills, and a sound that is at home in the country genre, but also draws from pop and singer-songwriter influences. Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Hamilton’s musical journey began at the age of nine, when she started to play the guitar. Songwriting quickly followed. Amidst these exciting musical discoveries, Hamilton battled cancer three times. Creating music soon became a constant presence throughout this period, serving as an artistic light of self-healing, inspiration, and comfort.

Today we are excited to be teaming up with Jaimey to give our readers an exclusive behind the scenes look at her music video for ‘Stompin’ Ground’

Hey everyone, thank you so much for having me on Live in Limbo! My name is Jaimey Hamilton and I am a country music artist from Victoria, British Columbia. I can’t wait to go “Behind the Video” with you for “Stompin’ Ground”, which is my latest single.

The Inspiration:

I wrote “Stompin’ Ground” back in 2017 with my co-writer Scotty Hills. The song is highly inspired by my family’s lake cabin where I spent all my summers. I brought the idea of “Stompin’ Ground” to my co-writer as I wanted to describe my happy place on Cowichan Lake, BC. I have my fondest memories up there spending time with friends and family and singing songs around the campfire.

For the music video, I was inspired by the video for Madeline Merlo’s “Slide”. I love that she had some performance moments as well as lots of shots with her friends drinking and having a good time. I wanted to do the same but also include the beauty of Cowichan Lake with shots of the turquoise blue water from the drone and driving the boat.

The Creation:

With that precise video concept for this project, I reached out to a local videographer named Sean Lyons that I had been following for a while and really loved his work. He worked so hard that day accommodating all my requests and absolutely nailed it.

The video had to be shot up on Cowichan Lake. Since I wrote the song about a specific place, I wanted to shoot the video specifically there. I totally had the vision of driving down the gravel road with my brother and sister and our friends and then arriving at our oasis. I wanted to capture all the good times we have out on the boat and on the dock drinking and singing along to our favourite country songs. All my friends and family are in it and even our dogs are featured!

The Audience:

I think that country music fans will connect with this song and the video, especially those who all have a place where they feel most comfortable and brings us back to our best memories. We all have a song or even a genre of music that we love and takes us back to those moments – for me, that’s country music.

I hope that when people see the “Stompin’ Ground” video, they feel that sense of nostalgia and it reminds them of their own stompin’ ground. I hope they add it to their own summer playlist and can’t help but sng along.

Thank you so much for having me, Live and Limbo and for letting me go “Behind the Video”!
