New Kids On The Backstreet Boys at Air Canada Centre

Despite being Kevin-less, the Nick, Brian, Howie, and AJ tore up the stage with dance moves that drove the crowd wild, adding even more to their dream set-list that included fan favourites: ‘The Call’, ‘Shape of my Heart’, ‘Larger than Life’, and ‘I Want it That Way’. Nearly every attendee was up and dancing their hearts out and falling back in love with the boys who had us drooling over them in the 90’s with more than just their promises to never break our hearts.

The only aspect that really separated the individual performances was NKOTB’s excessive use of ‘Toronto’. If the crowd was unsure of where they were even in the slightest, Donnie Wahlberg rid the room of any possible confusion. With classic boy-band dance moves, fireworks and flames, and chorus call backs, the boys turned back time with hits  like ‘Step by Step’ and ‘You Got It (The Right Stuff)’.

What could possibly be more exhilarating for fan girls world-wide than for New Kids on the Block and Backstreet boys, two of the 80’s and 90’s best boy bands to tour together in honor of their upcoming collaboration album. According to the thousands of shrieking fans at the ACC on Wednesday night, nothing: except perhaps throwing N’SYNC into the mix. The exchanges between the boys of both bands prior to the encore were nothing short of adorable. It was a Smirnoff Ice kind of night for the 80 and 90 babies of Toronto, filled with excessive hand waving while attempting to relive the days where boy bands thrived.
