Canadian electro-pop act Dragonette took the stage at Sound Academy to give Toronto a show they won’t forget. Some might remember the band from their early albums (Galore and Fixin’ To Thrill) but it was appearing on Martin Solveig’s single “Hello” that rocket them into mainstream stardom.

The show opened up with Young Empires. I’ve never heard them before but I was in for a treat. This Toronto based quartet set the right tone for an opening act. They spoke little but audience didn’t seem to mind. Everyone seemed to enjoy the band’s performance their played songs debut EP, Wake All My Youth.

Couple of minutes later, Dragonette proceeded to the stage. Their set started with an oldie but a favourite, “I Get Around”. Despite a couple of tech problems, Dragonette kept the crowd going with their incredible high energy. Singer, Martina Sobrara has a remarkable stage presence. Her quirky voice and funky dance moves are so exquisite that it makes her performance burst with flavour. Dragonette played almost all of their singles which also included a few songs from their new record Bodyparts. The band took a minute to express their gratitude to those in attendance which led right into “Hello” and “Let It Go” which the crowd absolutely loved.

Just before their encore song “My Work Is Done”, Martina decided to do an acapella version of “Cuckoo” which just showcased the amazing talent she really has. What an epic end to killer show.
