Electric Youth at The Hoxton

After doing a couple of shows in America, Electric Youth returns home to a warm reception at the Hoxton. Childhood sweethearts, Bronwyn Griffin and Austin Garrick formed their electro-pop duo in 2009. They first caught the world’s attention when their song was featured in the 2011film Drive. Three years later, “A Real Hero” is still a huge hit with fans and critics worldwide.  On September 30, 2014, Electric Youth’s long-awaited debut album was finally released and now they’re ready to let everyone into their inner world.

The group opened with their current singles from Innerworld, “Innocence” and “Runaway” which dons Griffin’s soft vocals perfectly.  Before performing “The Best Thing”, Griffin thanked the crowd for coming out. “It’s good to be home”.  The deep and intangible elements of Electric Youth’s dream pop sound created a wonderful show for their hometown fans.  It felt like you were behind the wheel of a mustang, cruising downtown with 80’s synth-pop pumping through the speakers.  It’s like Griffin and Garrick wanted to make the audience feel forever young when they were performing tracks like “WeAreTheYouth” and “Right Back To You” which made the show very enticing.

Their performance really does sound like you’re floating in the ether. Much of that credit goes to Griffin whose effortlessly lush vocal compliments Garrick’s synths. Before the encore, they performed “A Real Hero” which felt like an epic climax to an amazing show. For those who were lucky to catch Electric Youth on this tour can testify this duo will make music that will survive beyond their time in the limelight.
