Ghostface Killah at Rockpile East

Friday evening marked the end of an era at The Rockpile East. They were hosting their final hip hop show, before a relocation downtown. What better way to finish things off than by bringing in one of the most consistent heavy hitters in the game over the past two decades; Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah.

After a loaded bill of local supporting acts, Ghostface made his way on stage around 1am. Opening the night with “Criminology” off of Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, it was clear that this show wasn’t to promote his new album 36 Seasons, which will be released on December 9th. Following that up with “Nutmeg,” Ghostface spit out rapid fire verses on hit after hit, after hit.

Tracks like “One”, “Be Easy” and his verse on Reakwon’s “Ice Cream” stood out in the first half of the set, after which Ghostface stood back and let fellow Wu-Tang member Cappadonna take things over for most of the rest of the set. The two performed a mini Wu-Tang set, including “Tearz,” “Protect Ya Neck,” and “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin’ to F’ Wit.”

All in all, it was a hell of a way to finish off a run of successful hip hop shows out in Scarborough.
