The Used, Every Time I Die, The Eeries, marmozets at The Danforth Music Hall

Utah natives, The Used, graced the Danforth Music Hall on Sunday evening, supporting their new album Imaginary Enemy and bringing back all of the feels for the fans who grew up listening to them. Opening the night was Every Time I Die, The Eeries, and marmozets.

When I first discovered The Used, it was during their ‘In Love and Death’ era around 2005. Since then, they have released 4 full length albums and 2 EPs, so I wasn’t too sure how they would squeeze their growing discography into their set list and found myself wondering if any of my favourite older songs would make the cut. Lucky for me, a good portion of them did! The night was filled with an excellent balance of songs as they opened with ‘Maybe Memories’, ‘Take It Away’, and ‘Bird and the Worm’ each one coming off one of their first three albums. After running through memory lane, the band treated fans to ‘Cry’ and ‘Revolution’, which come off of their latest album Imaginary Enemy.

What made the night really memorable was how songs were tweaked for the live performance; they made an intro for ‘The Taste of Ink’, which doesn’t appear on the album. It had me guessing which song they were about to play until vocalist, Bert McCracken, dove into the song. McCracken’s stage presence was also something to take note of. He spent the night running around and getting close to the fans from the edge of the stage, which was nice to see him interacting with the audience. As the night came to a close, the band brought fans down memory lane one last time by ending with ‘A Box Full Of Sharp Objects’.
