Viet Cong at The Opera House

Friday evening marked the return of the Converse Rubber Tracks, a free concert series supporting emerging music across the U.S and internationally. The series has so far welcomed buzzy black metal band, Deafheaven, and one of the first live collaborative sets between Toronto’s own BADBADNOTGOOD and Ghostface Killah.

This time, the night marked the return of Calgary’s Viet Cong. Kicking off with the Cassette EP opener Throw it Away, the band blistered through an hour long assault to the senses which culminated with an epic five handed drum collaboration between their own Mike Wallace (who broke his hand just prior to SXSW and played the entire night with a grotesque claw-like cast over his left hand) and members of Absolutely Free.

It’s nights like these at The Opera House, and events like these new Rubber Tracks shows, that are cementing Toronto as a popular live music destination. After 3 successful events in the past 5 months, It’ll be exciting to see what comes next.
