Shiba San at The Hoxton

The Hoxton flooded with fans just minutes after doors opened for a sold out show headlined by Shiba San. Future house enthusiasts danced and bounced along with the bass heavy tunes, some dressed in fluorescent glow gear, LED lined sneakers, and Dirtybird record apparel. It was clear that Toronto house fans would remember this performance for a long time.

Opening for Shiba San was a Toronto based DJ duo known as KRFW, and these guys are no amateurs. They did an absolutely flawless job with setting the pace for the headliner, throwing in their originally produced content in the mix, including a remix of Zhu’s Faded that you’ll find stuck in your head for days. As more and more fans piled into the venue, KRFW bumped up the energy with bangers like pleasurekraft’s remix of Got a Feeling by Josh Butler, leaving an imprint on future house fans. Throughout their set they wore their trademark masks, one a golden fox, the other a golden rabbit, After their set, they joined their fans in the crowd for Shiba’s set, interacting with their fans, and creating hundreds of new ones. I’m certain that we will hear more from these guys; they have a promising career ahead of them.

Shiba San took center stage and the crowd exploded with excitement. He dropped bass heavy bombs on Toronto as he let loose tracks like his original I Like Your Booty and Crooker’s remix of Sweet Lovin’ by Sigala. He laid out booty popping tracks, bringing fans on stage with him as he played. The crowd shouted his name over and over throughout the show, and he responded by pumping up the amperage and busting out his original track Okay to which he unexpectedly started vinyl scratching along with it. Towards the end of his set, the crowd shouted “One more song!” What was he going to do, say no? He played his encore and the crowd reluctantly accepted the end of one of the best future house shows Toronto has seen.
