Post Malone with Sleigh Bells and Amir Obe at NXNE – Day 1

Photos by Katrina Lat.

The three-day-long festival kicked off with weather that couldn’t quite make up its mind, but thankfully the rain held off long enough for everybody to enjoy the evening’s performances without getting wet.

A notable performance from the first evening came from Sleigh Bells, the loud and energetic pop duo from New York. While the crowd had yet to grow to the size it would for the headliner of the evening, the band brought a lot of liveliness from the audience as people danced along to “Comeback Kid” and some of their other hits.

Detroit hip-hop artist Amir Obe also performed on stage. Check out our interview with him.

It was pretty clear that the majority of the people attending Friday came for the last performer of the evening. Although the turnout was not too bad earlier in the evening, I could see people starting to flood in closer to the rapper/singer/songwriter Post Malone’s performance. Known for his breakout hit, “White Iverson”, the artist put on a fair show with lots of noticeable fans in the crowd. Although I’m not personally a huge fan of the artist, his performance gained a solid response from the audience, especially towards the end when he performed his two most well known singles, “White Iverson” and “Congratulations”.

Overall the first day of NXNE was a really great time. I’m glad I got to team up with my JUNO Awards partner, Kat to enjoy some excellent music and also that the weather turned out to surprise us and stay warm and dry. Stay tuned for more reviews from the rest of the weekend!
