Sean Paul with Brandy, & Ginuwine at 93.5 The Move’s Throwback Bash

On July 30th, Echo Beach filled up with Torontonians for a night of hits at 93.5 The Move’s Throwback Bash featuring Ginuwine, Brandy and Sean Paul.

Hitting the stage first was baby-making artist, Ginuwine. Throughout his set he sat on the monitors in the front of the stage, reaching out to the screaming crowd. He thrust his hips into the faces of the front row, while singing 90s song “So Anxious”.

For his 2003 single “In Those Jeans” he brought a girl on stage who was wearing jeans for two people to fit in. He sang the song to the girl while putting one leg into the jeans (she wouldn’t be able to handle both his legs he claimed). He pulled all the tricks out of the bag, taking off layers of clothes, passing out roses to girls in the audience and ending with the crowd singing his hit “Pony” while hung on the barrier.

Next up was Brandy, who stomped her way back and forth on the stage throughout her set. For an artist who hasn’t released new music since 2012, the crowd sang the lyrics back at her for every song.

She took a few moments to reassure the crowd that new music was coming and saying thank you for the support over the years. Surprisingly, she did not sing two hits the crowd were expecting; “The Boy Is Mine” and “Have You Ever?”. She ended with her 2000 single “Never Say Never” with crowd participation.

Last to perform, at just after 10pm was headliner Sean Paul. According to The Move’s Mastermind, they have been trying for all four years of the Throwback Bash to book Sean Paul.

A medley of hits from the early 2000s made up the set list, everything from “Baby Boy” with Beyonce to his song with Enrique Iglesias “Bailando”. He threw in a few of the current hits, such as “Rockabye” with Clean Bandit as well.

The crowd seemed split on who they were there for, half seemed to be there for Brandy and Ginuwine while leaving when Sean Paul came on stage.

Overall, the crowd reacted to all three artists as if no time had gone by. It seemed to be a night of sing-a-longs to your favourite throwback guilty pleasures.
