Song Premiere : “Deep Dive” by Reno McCarthy

From The Artist : My new song, “Deep Dive,” is about fear. The moment when you don’t know if you’ve got what it takes. The inner dance between the feeling of inadequacy and sudden unexpected bursts of strength. It’s Indiana Jones looming over the canyon in The Last Crusade as he ponders whether to take that leap of faith. It’s about living in a cage of your own making. The door is open and you could walk out, but you don’t.

Reno McCarthy is getting ready to release his debut album Counterglow. He’s starting with the melancholy, groove-driven alt-pop track “Deep Dive” along with a geometric visual. The smoothness of McCarthy’s vocals is the first thing to pull you in, but the underlying depth in his songwriting is what sends the shivers. The tightly framed visuals in the video encapsulate this unguarded intimacy without ever becoming cloying or maudlin. There’s a counterbalance between the teetering inanimate objects and Reno’s emotional performance, as he’s almost foreshadowing inevitable fallout. Stunning and melodically enchanting, ‘Deep Dive’ is a wonderful introduction to the artist.

With the release of his debut album Counterglow, the young alternative-pop artist is closing a chapter of his life. It’s the end of a coming of age. Written between 2013 and 2017, the record addresses the impact of the passage of time on living with fear and anxiety. Counterglow will be released on May 10th 2019, followed by a summer tour.
