Concert Reviews

Lenny Kravitz at Budweiser Stage

Although the unofficial end of summer is upon us, the concerts at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage continues to pleasure music lovers auditory senses. This midweek show was all about an evening with Lenny Kravitz.

His tour, Raised Vibration, included only 3 Canadian dates. 2 in Quebec and finishing off in Toronto before hopping over the border again.

Unlike most concerts there was no supporting acts on the roster.

The evening started a bit later than scheduled, but it just built the anticipation of the crowd. Once the lights dropped the fans let out a monsterous cheer.

Lenny Kravitz appeared, guitar in hand, centered at the top of the stage on a huge riser. He started his set with a bang playing “We Can Get It All Together “.

The evening had an interesting feeling. Although the venue was near capacity at 16000, the nights performance exuded a relaxed atmosphere.

The hits where plentiful, however there was a lot of soul induced into the songs, slowing some songs down with emotion. Even the vibe from Lenny indicated a mellow, down to earth feel. He referred to the crowd as friends, saying “The over use of technology keeps us from living in the moment. Put your phones and camera down. We have a much better piece of technology within our mind and soul. Let’s feel each other, let’s be still.” With the exception of a few, the sea of cell phone lights dimmed and people did in fact live in the moment.

Some of the fan favourites performed where “Fly Away”, “I Belong To You” and “Are You Gonna Go My Way”. The last song of the evening “Let Love Rule” finished off the 20 song set list.

I enjoyed hanging with my “friend” Lenny. It was a fun evening.
