Montreal based Canadian two-piece indie pop band Down With Space was formed in 2019 by vocalist/guitarist Rob Helsten and drummer Steve Dumas just before the world shut down. Down With Space is the combination of an English speaker, (Helsten) and a French speaker, (Dumas) who have found an understanding through music when language can sometimes elude communication. Working out of Delicate/Automatic recording studio (co-owned by Helsten), it’s only natural that they have adopted a DIY ethos to keeping their process in house while creating sounds that are equally balanced between synthesis and organic instruments. Having recently been awarded a FACTOR artist development grant, Down With Space is looking forward to a productive 2022.
Their dancy new single, “Not Your Time” was born during a sporadic jam session. It was a cathartic writing process for Rob Helsten, who was working through the grief of losing a friend in a needless accident. Despite the heavy lyrics and message of the song, this song is meant to be anything but that. It should evoke memories of free, fun, and energetic moments spent with your loved ones.
From The Artist : “Not Your Time” was written to evoke memories of the good times, buoyed by music that is energetic and free. A cathartic process to put together, our new single was born in a jam room with a narrative which came to fruition later. These lyrics channel the memory of a friend of mine who is sadly no longer with us, lost to a needless accident.
