Slipknot with Cypress Hill at Budweiser Stage

Metal fans rejoiced as Slipknot’s Knotfest Roadshow made a triumphant return to Toronto. The tour was originally scheduled to stop at Budweiser Stage in 2020, then was rescheduled for 2021 without the Canadian dates due to covid restrictions. After what felt like an eternity, the 2022 edition of the tour finally rolled through Toronto on Monday night.

Fans were very eager to get a glimpse at one of the world’s heaviest and most entertaining bands of our time, as the early 5pm doors didn’t seem to help the ever growing line of fans trying to get into the venue on time. I arrived at 6:30 and had thought doors didn’t open yet due to the sheer volume of people waiting to get in. But once I did get into the venue, it was clear that doors were probably on time as even the lawn was already starting to get pretty full.

Opening their set with “Disasterpiece”, Slipknot played a setlist that showcased their 23 years as a band. The set contained heavy hitters such as “Wait and Bleed”, “All Out Life”, “The Devil in I” and “Psychosocial”. Fans were even treated to “Snuff” which hasn’t been played live since 2012. From the beginning to end, it’s obvious why Slipknot continues to be one of the best metal bands of our time. Between constantly reinventing themselves with each album, their on stage chemistry, illuminated three-tier stage, and pyro going off at just the right moment to make their riffs hit just a bit harder; their stage presence and live shows are unmatched.

It’s clear that they’ve spent years paying attention to every aspect of their shows as they have perfected the craft of keeping the crowd engaged the entire night without missing a beat. I would highly suggest anyone and everyone check them out the next time they are in town – you won’t be disappointed.
