Chris Stapleton at Budweiser Stage

The bright lights of the rides at the Canadian National Exhibition were more vibrant than usual for a late afternoon walk down to Budweiser Stage. A severe thunderstorm warning had dark clouds hovering overhead, which forced a last-minute set list change for tonight’s performer, the 8-time Grammy-winning, Chris Stapleton.

The country star was scheduled for 8:55 pm but got bumped up to 7:45 pm due to safety concerns. Due to the change, the support acts, The Marcus King Band, and War & Treaty had to cancel their sets, unfortunately.

Raincoats were left at home. Cutoff flannels, white cowboy boots, and cowboy hats were the dress code regardless of the imminent weather. Once Chris hit the stage, nothing else mattered. The sold-out crowd was in full party mode, getting louder with each song!

Chris Stapleton is incredible! Listening to him on vinyl, streaming services, or the radio are all excellent choices. If you love his music? I recommend buying a ticket and seeing him perform live! Goosebumps! One of the most raw and powerful voices I have ever heard. From the flawless band behind him to the beautiful vocal dynamic of him and his wife, Morgane Stapleton, the set was outstanding! A lovely part of the night was Chris bringing out the support acts to join him on stage for a song. The Toronto crowd got to see The All-American Roadshow, after all.

The best part?! It’s night one of two sold-out shows. All bands, beautiful weather, and the Ex opening night will make for a perfect Friday night in the city.
